The roof of a tractor trailer rig can now be equipped with this innovative new heated cover in an effort to melt snow and ice before a truck heads out on the road. To further assist with snow and ice buildup, the cover can be raised by hydraulic or pneumatic cylinders, thereby creating a slope. Any accumulated snow and ice will then simply slide off the roof, without drivers having to wait for the heating system to melt everything away first.

Inventor Joanna M. Szajer of Canada has developed a snow and ice removal system created especially for tractor trailers.
It is unlawful in most jurisdictions in North America to drive with snow on top of a trailer. For this reason, transportation and distribution companies are spending millions of dollars annually on snow removal. It is not only costly; it can also cause delays in deliveries. This is because snow is usually removed by hand or machine. Other snow removal systems currently in use can leave a layer of ice on the trailer that can detach during transport and cause damage. Snow and ice can also add to the trailer weight and allowable trailer weights are highly regulated, causing the trailer to be re-loaded and even off loaded to meet the prescribed law. Joanna knew there had to be a better way. In turn, she created Melt’n’Slide!
